2012 MERCEDES S550 STAGE-1 PERFORMANCE PACKAGE
It has always been a highly debated subject when it comes to car manufactures and their factory horsepower ratings. In the case of this 2012 Mercedes S 550 we can see a prime example of the manufacture under rating their cars horsepower. From the factory Mercedes rates this car at 429 flywheel horsepower. On our dyno we found that this S 550 made 476 flywheel horsepower from the factory, that is a difference of 47 horsepower! This S 550 is equipped with Dyno-Comp’s Stage-1 Performance ECU upgrade and produced some great results as listed bellow.
Bone Stock: 2012 Mercedes S 550
REAL WORLD this is what a 2012 Mercedes S 550 puts down for power..
- 390 (Wheel HP) = 476 HP at the flywheel.
- 460 (Wheel TQ) = 561 TQ at the flywheel.
These numbers were taken from a stock car and may vary. In the case of this S 550, it was noted that Mercedes significantly under rated the flywheel horsepower.
- HP is now at 440 (at the wheels) which equates out to about 537 HP at the flywheel.
- TQ is now at 522 (at the wheels) which is approx 637 TQ at the flywheel.
At the end of the day what does all this mean…
- +61 HP increase at the flywheel.
- +76 TQ increase at the flywheel.
OLD DOGS CAN LEARN NEW TRICKS
Dyno-Comp is often visited by cars of both unique design and cars that are often one of a kind. Pictured above are two very special vehicles that recently visited Dyno-Comp. The first vehicle parked on the left (pictured in the top photo) is a Scarab kit car. This “Scarab” was built completely by hand featuring a Chevy small block and does not have a specific year, make, or model. The second vehicle parked on the right (first photo) is a 1970 Triumph TR6 with a supercharger. This TR6 has been through many projects at Dyno-Comp including a full custom exhaust.

This truck might be as close as you will get to being struck by lightning! The 2003 Ford SVT Lightning featured above put down huge power on our dyno, almost enough to give you a serious jolt. Watch out for this silver bullet! Dyno-Comp was recently visited by a twin turbo 370z with one serious six pack. This 2009 Nissan 370z put down 501 rear wheel horsepower on our Dyno Dynamics Dyno. That is over 625 horsepower at the flywheel! The craziest part about this dyno is that the car was only running 91 octane fuel, a rare factor not usually found in high horsepower cars. MERCEDES-BENZ AMG EVOLUTION… 5 YEARS APART
Today Dyno-Comp held an AMG face off between a 2005 Mercedes E55 and a 2012 Mercedes CLS63. This comparison is a perfect example of how the two platforms have evolved. The legendary supercharged 55 motor came in a whopping 70-80whp less then the new twin turbo 63 platform. The cars compared in this trial were both equipped with Dyno-Comp’s Stage-1 Performance Package for their own application (Software/Pulley on the E55 and Software on the CLS63). What a battle… It looks like the twin turbo platform is definitely here to stay!
2012 MERCEDES CLS 63 TWIN TURBO AIMS TO OUTPERFORM
There have been many heated debates about the new AMG 63 twin turbo motors in the automotive world. After extensive testing and dyno tuning it is safe to say that we expect great things to come from this platform. Dyno-Comp’s Stage-1 Performance Package is a simple upgrade that promises to deliver! - TQ is now at 578 (at the wheels) which is approx 711 TQ at the flywheel.
At the end of the day what does all this mean…
- +67 HP increase at the flywheel.
- +121 TQ increase at the flywheel.
